Experience Points (EXP) determines how powerful a character is and allows for the progression of stats, the user's bloodline, and the user's Restricteds.

Types of Experience Points
There are 2 types of EXP that one will get throughout their journey in Spatha/Gladius.
Total EXP
Total EXP, otherwise known as Class EXP, is your main EXP type. Total EXP will not be touched but will only accumulate as you gain EXP. This EXP is used to determine your character's Class and nothing more. Total EXP gained will also grant the same amount of Spendable EXP.
Spendable EXP
Spendable EXP is what the user will use to spend on their stats, Bloodline, Restricted and some other very niche reasons. This is considered your EXP Currency and can be used in the user's Updates for the above. Every 1 Total EXP the user gains, they will also receive 1 Spendable EXP. This EXP will go into it's own pool separate from Total EXP.

EXP Advantage Unique Ability
This unique ability is only available upon character creation and can confer an early advantage in EXP. A player may start with more EXP that is applied to their total (which also grants spendable of the same amount). The amount chosen may never exceed the amount required to advance to the next class and the maximum will ALWAYS be 5 EXP short of the EXP required for Class Advancement.
+ D Class Characters: 0-1000 EXP. The user may only take a max of 995 EXP Advantage.
+ C Class Characters: 1001-2000 EXP. The user may only take a max of 995 EXP Advantage.
+ B class Characters: 2001-3500 EXP. The user may only take a max of 1495 EXP Advantage
This will put the user into EXP Debt by the amount they take the EXP Advantage by. If the user takes 500 EXP Advantage, they will be placed into an EXP Debt of 500. All EXP Debt will be in multiples of 5!

NOTE: This will count as your character's Total EXP. So if you made a D Rank Character with 500 EXP Advantage, your character will have 500 total EXP.

This Spendable EXP is required to be used upon creation. Any unused EXP with EXP Advantage will be ignored and it will not be placed into Spendable EXP Pool.

Paying your debt
Once the EXP Debt has been accrued, all total EXP is spent to paying this off. The user will not gain any Spendable EXP until this debt has been paid off. Any Spendable EXP granted as a gift (through staff announcements) may also be used to pay off this debt. Once you have successfully paid your EXP debt, the user will begin accruing Spendable EXP.

Skill Trade
The user may trade up to 3 Skill Points to grant themselves the following:
:: +500 Spendable EXP
:: +1 Stat Raise Maximum
Skill Trade Spendable EXP may not be used to pay off your EXP Debt upon Character Creation

Gaining Total EXP
There are several ways of gaining Total EXP. These ways will grant the user Total EXP (and in turn, Spendable EXP of the same amount).

Solo RPing
The user gains +5 EXP per solo post. Users may only benefit from 3 Solo Posts per day.

Group RPing
The user gains +5 EXP, per post, per person, in a group RP thread containing 2 or more. This is calculated with how many people are in the topic total, not per posting round. Even if it starts with 2 people and eventually gains an additional 5 people, every round will confer the same amount as 7 people in that topic. If the topic had a max of 7 characters, everyone will receive 7 x 5 = 35 EXP per post.

RPing in Grand Training Areas
For the villages that have it, any roleplays performed in their Grand Training Area, such as the Grand Konoha Training Facility, will gain an additional +5 EXP per post.

RPing with your Dedicated Sensei
If you roleplay with your dedicated Sensei, you will gain an additional +5 EXP per post.

Certain EXP Unique Abilities
Some Unique Abilities, such as "EXP from me to you" may confer bonuses to others. See those UAs for more information.

Experiencing Near Death
The user will be granted +100 Experience Points when they suffer a near-death experience, which will be defined as: "an unusual experience taking place on the brink of death". These experiences must take place in serious life-and-death experiences by the hands of another Player Character (PC) with the opportunity and means of terminating your character. This will only be rewarded in the event that that Player Character decides to spare yours.

Flashback RPs
More information in Flashback RPs. However, in terms of EXP gain, Flashback RPs may only gain half of their normal EXP.

Maximum EXP gained per post
The user may only gain a maximum of 50 EXP per post. This does not include any bonuses such as Near Death.

Group Missions
When performing missions in a group of 2 or more, everyone in the mission -- regardless of the mission's rank -- will gain a bonus +25 EXP at the end. Solo Missions do not offer this, but it will offer the EXP gained for simply posting.

Other Means
:: Staff and or members assisting with roleplaying NPC/Bijuu and the like may be granted 30 EXP per post for their efforts.
:: Staff members will be granted +150 EXP at the end of the month for their services.
:: User may be granted EXP per craft up to a maximum. See Crafting Rules for more details.
:: Fighting PCs. This is only serious life-and-death battles. Spars and tournaments do not count.
D Class Shinobi
Killing Them Grants: +50 EXP
Sparing Them Grants: +75 EXP

C Class Shinobi
Killing Them Grants: +150 EXP
Sparing Them Grants: +225 EXP

B Class Shinobi
Killing Them Grants: +250 EXP
Sparing Them Grants: +375 EXP

A Class Shinobi
Killing Them Grants: +400 EXP
Sparing Them Grants: +600 EXP

S Class Shinobi
Killing Them Grants: +600 EXP
Sparing Them Grants:+900 EXP

X Class Shinobi
Killing Them Grants: 10% of their total EXP
Sparing Them Grants: 15% of their total EXP

Your Class is gained by gaining Total EXP (or Class EXP). Once your Total EXP reaches a certain EXP Threshold, then your character is entitled to Class-Up.

D Class: Obtained at 0 EXP -- Starting Class
Bonus Spendable EXP: +0
Skill Points Gained: 4 upon Character Creation
Technique Word Count: E-Ranks require no word count and may be claimed.
Techniques Learnable: Up to C Rank Techniques
Mission Rewards: E Rank Missions reward no bonus EXP.
All characters that start as a Genin will start at D Class

C Class: Obtained at 1000 Total EXP
Bonus Spendable EXP: +400 Spendable EXP
Skill Points Gained: +1 Skill Point
Technique Word Count: D-Ranks require no word count and may be claimed
Techniques Learnable: Up to B Rank Techniques
Mission Rewards: --
All characters that start as a Chuunin will start at C Class.

B Class: Obtained at 2000 Total EXP
Bonus Spendable EXP: +600 Spendable EXP
Skill Points Gained: +1 Skill Point
Technique Word Count: C-Ranks require no word count and may be claimed
Techniques Learnable: Up to A Rank Techniques
Mission Rewards: D Rank and below Missions rewards no bonus EXP.
All characters that start as a Jonin will start at B Class (assuming your village has additional Jonin slots)

A Class: Obtained at 3500 Total EXP
Bonus Spendable EXP: +800 Spendable EXP
Skill Points Gained: +1 Skill Point
Technique Word Count: B-Ranks require no word count and may be claimed
Techniques Learnable: Up to S Rank Techniques
Mission Rewards: --

S Class: Obtained at 6000 Total EXP
Bonus Spendable EXP: +1000 Spendable EXP
Skill Points Gained: +1 Skill Point
Technique Word Count: A-Ranks require no word count and may be claimed
Techniques Learnable: --
Mission Rewards: C Rank and below Missions rewards no bonus EXP.
If the user started at D Rank, they are capable of gaining 1 Restricted at this Class.

X Class: Obtained at 8000 Total EXP
Bonus Spendable EXP: +2000 Spendable EXP
Skill Points Gained: +2 Skill Points
Technique Word Count: S-Ranks require no word count and may be claimed
Techniques Learnable: --
Mission Rewards: --
If the user started at B Rank, they are capable of gaining 1 Restricted at this Class.
NOTE: Every time the user Classes up, they will gain Bonus Spendable EXP. This will go directly into the user's Spendable EXP pool. Characters that start off as a Jonin are not entitled to their C or B Class Bonus Spendable EXP.
